mvy Live: Blake Mills

Blake Mills was an early member of the band that became Dawes.  And since both artists were on the bill for Newport 2013, it only made sense that they play together.

Thursday at 9pm on mvy Live, we'll bring you Blake Mills set, backed throughout by Dawes.

New on mvyradio: Dawes

The Dawes train keeps moving on.  After a successful pair of shows at a Newport Folk fundraiser, plus a surprise appearance as the backing band for their old friend Blake Mills at the Festival, their prominence grows.  And the easy tunefulness of "Most People" makes it another song destined for a long run on mvyradio.

And to see what else is brand new on the station, visit the playlist page.  Look to the right for what's been added this week, and scroll to the bottom for songs in current rotation.

Newport Folk 2013: Blake Mills

While his old bandmates in the band formerly knows as Simon Dawes (now just "Dawes") are playing across town, instead of at Fort Adams this year, Blake Mills will make his Newport debut.

Mills was an early member of the band, but left to pursue a solo career, as well as produce records for others.  He can tell you a little more about what he's been up to in the interview below.

Blake Mills comes to Newport Folk 2013, and mvyradio will be there again, participating in NPR Music's coverage.  Hear performances live from the stage on mvyradio, July 26th through 28th.  And watch this space for more NFF artist previews.

Hear Blake Mills and the other artists scheduled to appear at this year's festival, on our Newport Folk Channel, which you can stream for free!

Monday Free CD: Dawes

Dawes is a band that has really taken off in the last 2 years.  So it's a bit ironic that their latest, biggest hit is a scene from a plane called "From A Window Seat."

What about the rest of the album?  We bet you'd like to find out what it sounds like, right?

Listen all day Monday for your chance to win it.

Life Is Good: Line-up Announcement

We've enjoyed being on the scene at the last few Life Is Good concerts, and loved having "Director Of Good Vibes" (and Festival booker) James MacDonald into the studio last year for a LIG Hot Seat.

Life Is Good announced their very MVY-friendly line-up today.  Check it out!
