New on mvyradio: David Bromberg

0comments
After laying low for the better part of a couple of decades, David Bromberg has come back in the last few years to deliver a series of strong albums with his typical blend of the traditional and the quirky.  The first single off "Only Slightly Mad" is a new take on "Nobody's Fault But Mine."

mvy Live: Colin Meloy

0comments
This year's Newport Folk Festival featured a mini-reunion of The Decemberists.  Leader Colin Meloy had been on a solo tour, and the remaining band members were touring as Black Prairie.  Both were on the bill, so they played a few songs together.  And they brought up Laura Viers, just for good measure.

You can hear this concert, recorded by NPR Music, on Thursday at 9pm ET for mvy Live!

New on mvyradio: Neko Case

"If I puked up some sonnets would you call me a miracle?"

Haunting, enigmatic and gorgeous are a few words commonly used to describe Neko Case.  But as the lyric above demonstrates, you'll find some (dark) humor buried in there too.  "Night Still Comes" is the latest from Ms. Case.

You can hear Neko at Newport Folk from a few years a back in our archives.

New on mvyradio: Nicki Bluhm And The Gramblers

We got a big kick out of Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers during their main stage appearance at Newport Folk 2013.  And "Little Too Late" is a deceptively groovy track that we're enjoying quite a bit here at MVY.

New on mvyradio: Lee Harvey Osmond

Originally a collaboration with Michael Timmins of Cowboy Junkies, Lee Harvey Osmond is led solely by Tom Wilson (Blackie And The Rodeo Kings).  "The Folk Sinner" featuring the song "The Devil's Load" came out earlier this year in Canada, and is already nominated for a 2013 Polaris Prize.

We've crossed paths with Tom Wilson a number of times.  Find interviews and performances here, here, here and more under "T" in the archives.

mvy Live: Frank Turner

Check out the clip below, to see a bit of Frank Turner at Newport Folk this year.

Seeing the band gives you a sense of the energy and the urgency, but let's face it, the sound isn't so good.

Thankfully, the NPR Music recording that we'll be airing Thursday at 9pm ET, sounds waaaaay better than this.  Crank it up on your stereo, and it'll sound like your on the field at Fort Adams.

New on mvyradio: Sarah Jarosz

She just completed school at the New England Conservatory Of Music, and she just completed her third record.  "Over The Edge" is the latest from the young 'un from Texas.
