New on mvyradio: The Avett Brothers

0comments
Working with Producer Rick Rubin sure has proved fruitful for many, many artists.

Add The Avett Brothers to that list.  They wrote and recorded so many songs for the record "The Carpenter" that they are able to put out a follow-up album less than a year later.  It won't be out until the Fall, but the first single, "Another Is Waiting" is here.

It's fun to see a side project continue to blossom.  As 2/3rds of the Dixie Chicks put out a strong debut under the moniker "Court Yard Hounds," and their 2nd album is due this fall.

Good picking, strong production, hummable tunes and tight harmonies.  It's all "Sunshine."

New on mvyradio: Buddy Guy

He's got both kinds of music.

Rhythm. And Blues.

Buddy Guy's new double disc is split between a side labeled "Rhythm" and a side labeled "Blues." And his young friend Gary Clark Jr., not surprisingly, shows up on the Blues side.  Check out their collaboration "Blues Don't Care."

New on mvyradio: Elvis Costello & The Roots

0comments
You could call it an unlikely combination, but think about it.

Elvis Costello has made records with country backing bands and R&B backing bands and string quartets and opera singers and orchestras and Burt Bacharach.

And The Roots back up musicians on all shapes, sizes and genres, in their role as the house band on Jimmy Fallon.

So maybe their union isn't unlikely.  Maybe it was inevitable.

Check out the first single, "Walk Us Uptown."

We love the occasional bouncy-tune-laced-with-poison, and David Ford's track "Pour A Little Poison" is decidedly hummable.

Jess wrote a little bit about it on her blog.
