mvyradio: Laurel's decision; Jess on mornings

0comments
Laurel Redington is recovering from her car accident.  On Tuesday, she came on the air to talk about her future at mvyradio.

After 8 years, Laurel has officially decided to leave the morning slot.  She'll still work for MVY and will be producing many Community Related features.  She'll continue to do her Morning Toast.  And she'll be the "Station Voice," do the work of all our recorded underwriting.

Jess Phaneuf, who's been filling in on mornings, will move there permanently.

Congratulations to both of them, for all their good work.

As some of you know, MVY DJ's Laurel Redington and Ray Whitaker, along with their daughter Tessa, and Tessa's friend Ellie, were in a very serious car accident near Richmond, Virginia during April vacation week.

Many of you have asked for details.  Others have asked how to help.

This site offers information on both.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for our dear friends.

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal of raising $12,000 during our recent Friends of mvyradio drive.

As you know, a year-long budget for a non-profit like Friends of mvyradio is made up of a series of goals.  So while we are happy that we made the recent goal, we are looking forward to hitting the next mark.

So far, we have raised about $21,000 in listener donations since the beginning of the year.  To stay on track, we need to get to $30,000 by the end of March.

If you were thinking of donating during our drive, but didn't get the chance, know that a donation today will move us right along toward that goal.

And if you need convincing, here are a few fun videos that we made and posted during the drive.

mvy News: Laurel Makes A Change

6comments
Laurel Redington is making a change to her on-air schedule.  She tells us why:

As any parent knows, time never goes faster than through your kids! We have so little time with them before they “fly the nest” and are off on their own adventure! I don’t want to miss a thing and as the mother of a high school freshman girl, the early morning hours spent getting ready for school and talking about this and that at night before bed is extremely important to us both! We all have choices and the ones we make create our lives and whether we enjoy the journey or miss the entire thing and these are moments I don’t want to lose! That is why starting Monday morning, January 6th, 2014, you will hear the friendly voice of, a hilarious and wonderful friend, Megan Ward between 5:30am-8am. I will remain on the air between 8-11am. I am excited about the new chapter all of us here at mvyradio will be opening in 2014! Remember we will be back on the FM band at 88.7 come springtime!
